Plastic recycling is an open hardware plastic recycling project and is a type of digital open source project. The project started in 2013 and is now in its fourth iteration.
It relies on a series of machines and tools that grind, melt and inject recycled plastic and make it possible to create new products from recycled plastic on a small scale.
In 2012, the team began work on plastic recycling. The project was released in 2013 as version 1.0.
Work on version 2 began in 2015 and was released in March 2016.
In 2016, Plastic Recycling also created a market called Bazar for the sale of machines and products designed for DIY plastic recycling designers.
The team has been working on version 3.0 since early 2017 and was launched in October 2017
